Come on Out! Harvest Moon Society Annual General Meeting – “Celebrating the past, opening doors for the future”

Harvest Moon AGM

The Harvest Moon Society has accomplished many amazing things this year. From our most successful festival to date to the ongoing education and outreach with the local Prairie Spirit School Division, University of Manitoba, and much much more. There is a lot to celebrate, but also a need to continue adapting and to find the resources to carry on this important work. So this year’s AGM is especially focused on finding ways to bring new ideas and energy into this growing network and movement.

hmsphotos-9The AGM will be structured similarly to other years, with existing committees doing their respective reporting on Saturday morning, but leaving a significant portion of that afternoon to talk about new project ideas and strategies and ways to empower interested new Mooners to continue building on our collective vision. If you’re interested in getting involved please contact Jo-Lene Gardiner at jolenekeith@gmail.com or (204) 825-3512 to get more details about the AGM.

And, of course, we’ll have a hell of a good time along the way and afterwards!

Harvest Moon Local Food Initiative

whosyourfarmerYou may have an accountant, a doctor, or even a lawyer, but do you have a farmer – someone you can identify as providing you or your family with local, safe, healthy and nutritious food?

The HMLFI is a group of 10 farm families and 2 family-owned meat shops located in the beautiful Pembina Valley in southwestern Manitoba who believe:

  • in healthy land and healthy communities;
  • that everyone should have access to local, tasty and healthy farm fresh food;
  • farmers should be paid a fair price for growing this food;
  • in a more small-scale, sustainable and fair food system that better serves the interests of the land, our families and local communities; and
  • that we all have an important role to play in order to make this happen, including you!

Please also visit the Harvest Moon Food website (local food) at www.harvestmoonfood.ca to learn about how to support local farmers in a small scale food system.

    Architecture Studio Project

    The current trend of the building industry to move towards “sustainable” construction practices is an important step towards achieving a meaningful and balanced relationship with the environment. However, the focus of this movement is based on new architecture and construction projects currently being developed. What is not being discussed however is hidden potential within the vast majority of the existing buildings in our urban and rural landscapes.
