Spring is here (ish) and activity is ramping up at the Harvest Moon Learning Centre. Jo-Lene has seeds started and we’re cleaning out the greenhouse to get ready to start planting. We’re accepting applications for the HMS Scholarship and our summer Green Team positions and scheduling workshops and activities for April, May, and June.

Let us know if you’re going to come out to Clearwater to join us for any of our spring events!

Work Bee - April 26

Come pitch in at our Work Bee! On Saturday, April 26. We'll be getting the Harvest Moon Learning Centre in top shape for the growing season, and we could use your help.

Our social committee is making plans to organize some fun for after all the work is done! Come join us.

Women’s Health Day - May 10

We’re teaming up with Dr. Jayden Dobson of Manitou to put together a day focused on women’s health. There will be a variety of practitioners covering a wide range of topics, some as talks and others as hands-on demonstrations.

It’ll be 9am-ish to 4:30pm-ish and a vegetarian / gluten-free lunch will be included. We want to make this event as accessible as possible so we’re going to use a pay-what-you-can model, with a suggested cost of $15.

Perennial Exchange - May 31

We’ve scheduled our annual Perennial Exchange on Saturday, May 31. Come with your garden plants to exchange or give away (or seedlings, or houseplants, or seeds). As always, we will have delicious cupcakes from @clearwatercountrymarket ! It’s a great chance for some early-season tours of the greenhouse and gardens.

We’re also working out the details of a dahlia workshop we hope to host that day, with Nika Seward of The Bear Necessities Acres Flower Farm.

Emergency First Aid

HMS is offering a basic one-day course offering lifesaving first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for the workplace or home.

The course meets legislation requirements for provincial/territorial worker safety and insurance boards and includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines.

Th course is scheduled for Saturday, June 7th and the cost is $90. We’ll need a minimum of six registrations in order to hold the course.

Louise Recreation Babysitting Course

The Municipality of Louise Recreation District will be holding a Babysitting Course at the Harvest Moon Learning Centre on Saturday, April 5. If you know of someone who is interested, have them contact Rec Director Kelsey McLaren at louise_rec@hotmail.com or call 204-245-0680.

HMS Scholarship

Harvest Moon is excited to once again offer three scholarships of $500 to youth aged 17 to 21 in Manitoba who are looking to further their knowledge or education related to regenerative agriculture, sustainable food systems, and environmental stewardship. We’ve tried to make this program as accessible as possible and to make the application process super easy.

If you know of any youth who might be interested, please pass it along! More info and application details (and samples from past recipients) can be found on the HMS website.

Summer Green Team Hiring

We’ve submitted an application to the Urban/Hometown Green Team and, pending approval, we’ll be looking for someone to join us in Clearwater to help keep the grounds and facility looking great. If you’re interested in prepping, planting, weeding, watering, harvesting, and processing and are looking for work in July and August, drop us a line.
