The grow lights are assembled, plans are taking shape, are we’re ready for spring! Read on to learn about our new year-round monthly hiking club, events, workshops, residency announcements, and how to apply for the Harvest Moon Scholarship or our summer Green Team position.

Manitoba Hiking Club

We’re teaming up with Finn Rachul at Prairie Ojibwe Environmental to start a monthly hiking club. Join us year round on the first Saturday of the month when we’ll visit parks, farms, and natural spaces.

Louise Babysitting Course

Louise Recreation is once again hosting a Babysitting Course at the Harvest Moon Learning Centre. Brenda Preston from St. John’ Ambulance will be coming out on Saturday, April 18 and cost is $80. To register, email Louise_rec@hotmail.com.

From the St. John Ambulance website:
Babysitting is a job with significant responsibility and the Babysitting Course helps prospective babysitters learn the skills they need.

This course is for youth aged 11 to 15 years old. It teaches the new babysitter the necessary skills to provide care to children in a variety of situations.

The course emphasizes safety rules, responding to emergencies, and developing leadership skills.

Work Bee

Every spring we invite folks out to Clearwater to help us get our grounds and gardens in shape for the growing season. This year we’ll need even more hands as we team up with the Clearwater and District Nursery School to rejuvenate the area around our play structure.

Mark Saturday, April 25 on your calendar and come put some elbow grease into the Harvest Moon Learning Centre.

Harvest Moon Scholarship

The Harvest Moon Society is excited to once again be offering the Harvest Moon Scholarship.

We're offering three (3) scholarships of $500 each to youth aged 17-21 who reside within the boundaries of Manitoba for furthering their knowledge or education related to regenerative agriculture, sustainable food systems, or environmental stewardship. Examples of further education may include, but are not limited to: tuition at an educational institution, and/or registration for a course or conference.

To apply, please answer the following question:
How would you use $500 to further your knowledge or education in the areas of regenerative agriculture, sustainable food systems, and/or environmental stewardship and why is this important to you?

The format of your application is up to you: you could answer in an essay, video, slideshow, or in any other format in which you feel comfortable. We ask that you limit your application to the equivalent of 2 written pages or 2 minutes of video/audio.

Backyard Pruning Workshop

We’re collaborating with our friends at Wooden Gate Cider to put on a backyard pruning workshop over in their orchard. Mark your calendars for Sunday, April 12 and be sure to register soon as there are limited spots available.

2026 Artist Residencies

This winter Harvest Moon put out an Open Call for our Artist Residency program. We got quite the response and have lined up a busy spring/summer/fall set of residencies with artists from across the country.

Tentatively, scheduled to visit Clearwater are:

• Zoe Mills, writer, Winnipeg - May 18 to May 25

• David Martinello, woodworker, Mill Bay, BC - May 31 to June 6

• Rachel Prins, landscape painter, Vernon, BC - June 22 to July 4

• Emily Fyfe, Illustrator/Artist, Gunn, AB - July 15 to July 24

• Arlene Westen, cyanotype artist, High River, AB - Aug 26 to Sept 2

• Deborah Spear, sculptor from Thunder Bay, ON - Sept 27 to Oct 2

In addition, we’ll host two graduating artists from the University of Manitoba School of Art in May/June, and a Festival Residency in early September. There will be a lot of cool people in Clearwater this summer!

Summer Green Team

Harvest Moon is looking to hire a Green Team worker to help us keep the grounds in great shape this summer at the Harvest Moon Learning Centre.

The position will primarily be focused on mowing, weeding, planting, watering, and harvesting but will also include being involved in our summer youth programming and other events that we hold in July and August.
