Workshops
Sustainable Agriculture Workshops
Sustainable agriculture is central to the Harvest Moon vision of healthy land and healthy communities. Workshops on sustainable agricultural are offered periodically, in cooperation with members of the Harvest Moon Local Food Initiative, to educate about the techniques and benefits associated with a more holistic approach to food production. Click here for here for information on current opportunities and more.
Harvest Moon Festival Workshops
HMS and the community of Clearwater have hosted Manitoba’s perennial farm festival since 2002. The Harvest Moon Festival celebrates the harvest season and local food production, while providing an opportunity to link rural and urban communities. The festival offers music, a Fair Trade Fair, a guided nature walk, and a variety of educational workshops for all ages. Education is an integral component to the festival and a slate of workshops has been hosted over the course of five festivals.
Past workshops have included bio-diesel vehicle conversion, pop-bottle rockets, apple sauce making, organic farming, food security workshops, experiences in the North, natural body product making, drumming, dancing, laughter yoga, and much more. Over 500 individuals have participated in these workshops.
HMS Educators Match-Making Program
We have assembled a collection of profiles of educators and community members that work with and through the Harvest Moon Society to educate for healthy land and healthy communities. Our definition of this program was created for primary and secondary school audiences, but is open to any group. Our definition of “educator” and “expert” is broadened beyond those that have been trained as teachers or scientists. We celebrate both training and lived experience as related and important sources of knowledge and learning.
This program was originally created for primary and secondary school audiences, but is open to any group. For more information on the wide range of expertise and interests and educator profiles, view the Harvest Moon Educators brochure.
HMS Field Trips
Learning About, In and For the Environment, a program to develop a series of packaged in-class and field-trip educational programs that complement and supplement current provincial curriculum, provides a diversity of entry points to learn about sustainable agriculture, society, environment and the economy.
