Our story began as a program of the Organic Food Council of Manitoba in 2008. Since then, Manitoba Farm Mentorship’s activities have continually increased to accommodate local farmers who are producing for local markets. We have facilitated 16 mentor-intern match-ups, coordinated 45 training and networking events, and provided a centralized resource base for farmers who value long-term ecology over short-term profits.
We’re excited to be a part of the gaining momentum, and we’re looking forward to the next chapter (or book, we hope!) of sustainable agriculture in Manitoba as we transition our activities to the Harvest Moon Society.

“To Make A Farm” – DOCUMENTARY PREMIERING IN WINNIPEG
Screenings: May 25, 26, 30th – 7:00 PM
Location: CINEMATHEQUE, 100 Arthur Street
Special Guests: Director Steve Suderman and Manitoba Farmer Wes Huyghe
Honest, personal, and beautifully photographed, To Make A Farm premiered at the Vancouver International Film Festival in 2011 and was one of the ten most popular Canadian films of the festival. To Make a Farm asks: what might the future of local food and farming look like? Filmmaker Steve Suderman examines his own family history in farming while discovering a vibrant community of new small-scale organic farmers. To Make A Farm depicts the struggles and triumphs of a season on a fledgling farm through the eyes of five young people who have decided to take up this demanding profession, despite not having farm backgrounds.
The May 25th screening will be attended by Wes Huyghe, a young Manitoba farmer featured in the film. All screenings will be attended by director Steve Suderman.

To Make A Farm has been called “exceptionally hopeful” by the Vancouver International Film Festival, where the film had its world premiere in 2011 and was held over for an additional screening after receiving sell-out crowds. Since then, the film has continued to screen at festivals and community showings across Canada and the US, including Big Sky Documentary Festival (Montana), D.C. Environmental Film Festival (Washington, D.C.), Santa Cruz Film Festival (California), and Available Light Film Festival (Whitehorse, Yukon). In June it will premiere in China at the Shanghai International Film Festival.
