Dan and Fran Deruyck, members of the Harvest Moon Local Food Initiative
Our network of Food Buying Clubs offer a unique local alternative to the mainstream food system. Eaters are given access to high quality, healthy, fair local foods directly from their own farmer. Meanwhile, direct farm marketing gives producers the opportunity to make the decisions that affect their farm and their families, and opportunity to gain back their livelihoods out on the farm. Become a part of this grassroots initiative to reinvent a more sustainable food system. Visit www.harvestmoonfood.ca for more information.
The Harvest Moon Festival celebrates the harvest season and local food production, while providing an opportunity to link those from rural and urban communities. The festival offers music, a Fair Trade Fair, a guided nature walk, and a variety of educational workshops for all ages. Surrounded by the beauty of the Pembina Valley the festival takes place each year in the fall, around the full moon. The festival runs from Friday night until noon on Sunday. It features both rural and urban acts from all over Manitoba and continues to grow each year. Food is a large part of the Harvest Moon Festival and as such the festival food committee tries to accommodate those all walks of life, whether vegan or vegetarian, with as much local/organic food as possible. Join us next year for the 10th anniversary of the Harvest Moon Festival, September 16, 2011
