Educators Match-Making Program

Educating For Healthy Land and Healthy Communities
The Harvest Moon Society is comprised of a collective of farmers, students, professionals, community activists, teachers and learners from both urban and rural Manitoba. One of our main activities is to provide opportunities for citizens to critically assess the implications of our individual and collective choices.

The members of HMS have a wide range of expertise and interests including:

  • Food systems
  • Music
  • Photography and Art
  • Biodiversity and the environment
  • Alternative construction and energy
  • Small scale, sustainable and/or organic farming
  • Community building
  • Activism
  • The environment
  • Gardening

Our approach to education is as diverse as our interests. We generally use discussion and/or hands on workshop style education and challenge the learners to relate the subject material to their own lives. Our goal is to encourage learners to identify problems and to take action that contributes to the positive changes in their own lives, communities, environments and society.

Educator Profiles

We have assembled a collection of profiles of educators and community members that work with and through the HMS to educate for healthy land and healthy communities. This program was created for primary and secondary school audiences, but is open to any group. Our definition of “educator” and “expert” is broadened beyond those that have been trained as teachers or scientists: we celebrate both training and lived experience as related and important sources of knowledge and learning.

If you are interested in bringing a Harvest Moon Educator into your classroom or your community, please contact the individual directly. Each profile lists the email address of the educator. We recommend a minimum of a $50 honorarium for a workshop under 2 hours and $100 for anything above plus reimbursement of travel costs. These details will be worked out between the educator and you!
