Eco-Race

On September 12th the first annual Eco Race was hosted by the Harvest Moon Society and Prairie Spirit School Division. The race was held in Clearwater at the Harvest Moon Centre and took in the “Lessons From the Land” hiking trail.  Students from  Pilot Mound High School, Manitou – Nellie McClung Collegiate, and Cartwright School grade 10 classes attended the event.  The Eco Race was composed of three one hour workshops. The emphasis of these workshops was on healthy communities and healthy living.  The students throughout the day attended a workshop on Global and Local Foods put on by Kristina McMillian, a Bread Making workshop put on by Carol Guilford and Carol Orr, and GPS workshop put on by Cliff Greenfield (Pembina Valley Conservation District) where the students were then able to take the GPS systems down on the trail and participate in a scavenger hunt.  With financial support from the Pembina Valley Conservation District a lasagna lunch was served to all students and volunteer staff.  A big thank you goes out to volunteers for the event and the Conservation District for the great meal.  The entire day was a huge success and we are excited about where this will go next year.
